The Nigeria Police Force has announced the second edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja. The initiative, approved by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, aims to recognize officers who have demonstrated outstanding bravery, professionalism, integrity, and service excellence across the Force.
Speaking on behalf of the IGP, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the awards are “a vital part of the IGP’s broader vision to boost morale, reward excellence, and improve the working conditions of personnel.”
“The Inspector-General is deeply committed to ensuring that men and women of the Nigeria Police Force are acknowledged for their sacrifices and service to the nation,” Adejobi stated. “This initiative is not just about celebration; it is about reinforcing the values of integrity, courage, and professionalism that define modern policing.”
Organized in partnership with Lenders Consult International, the 2025 edition will feature multiple award categories. These include Crime Buster of the Year, Detective of the Year, Community Policing Advocate of the Year, Police Sports Person of the Year, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Year, Area Commander of the Year, Patrol Team of the Year, Traffic Officer of the Year, and awards for Gallantry and Integrity. The event will also recognize the Police Officer of the Year, and include IGP Special Recognition Awards for officers excelling in fields such as Public Relations, Legal Practice, and Medical Services.
Adejobi emphasized that the selection process was rigorous and transparent. “Nominations were received from all formations across the country—Force Headquarters, Zonal Commands, State Commands, Area and Divisional Headquarters. A collation committee, comprising senior officers and a representative of Lenders Consult International, reviewed all entries, and the final selection was made by the Force Management Team led by the IGP.”
According to the statement, the process was designed to ensure credibility and prevent undue influence, aligning with the IGP’s commitment to transparency and merit-based recognition.
Adejobi further reiterated the IGP’s promise to continue developing policies that improve the welfare and living standards of police personnel. “The IGP believes that when officers see that their efforts are truly appreciated and rewarded, they will be even more motivated to serve with honor and distinction.”
The upcoming ceremony is expected to attract top security officials, government representatives, and key stakeholders in public safety and law enforcement.
