NPC Kicks Off Survey To Reduce Maternal And Child Mortality In Yobe

The National Population Commission (NPC), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, has embarked on a nationwide verbal and social autopsy survey to find out the likely causes of under-five and maternal deaths in Yobe state.
The commission’s Federal Commissioner representing Borno and Yobe states, Barrister Isa Audu Buratai said the survey is importance in improving child and maternal healthcare.
The study which follows the 2023-2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey, concluded in May 2024, aims to generate data to inform the development of effective health policies and interventions to reduce preventable deaths.
Barrister Buratai urged community members to show cooperation by providing accurate information to help the government understand and address the underlying causes of the deaths.
The Commissioner who appealed to traditional and community leaders, the media, and the general public to support the survey’s smooth execution, expressed gratitude for the support of the Yobe State government and relevant ministries.
The fieldwork commenced on November 4th and will continue until December 15th, with data collectors conducting household interviews to gather information on maternal and child deaths.
