The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the protection of the rights and privileges of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), including those with Intellectual and Developmental Disorders (IDDs), in alignment with the directive of the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
Since assuming office, Lagos State Commandant Mr. Adedotun Keshinro has implemented progressive measures to ensure full compliance with the Corps’ inclusive policy framework. These include the establishment and strengthening of special desk offices across formations, capacity-building for desk officers, awareness campaigns, and sustained engagement with disability clusters.
Speaking through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Corps Oluwaseun Abolurin, at the closing ceremony of a three-day policy implementation forum organized by the Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities of Nigeria (AIDDN), Commandant Keshinro emphasized that the Corps remains focused on providing intellectually sound and practical support to advance policy priorities for PWDs and IDDs. These priorities span health and well-being, education and skill development, employment and economic inclusion, social protection, and community integration.
The forum, themed “Policy Development for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities,” concluded on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Ikeja, Lagos.
The Commandant also underscored the importance of multisectoral collaboration for effective policy implementation. He urged associations such as AIDDN to deepen partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), ministries, agencies, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector, media, and relevant security services.
Highlighting recent achievements, Keshinro noted that the NSCDC Lagos Command has revived and enhanced the functionality of its PWD Unit. The unit now provides critical support during PWD interactions at various national assets and infrastructure points, including rail stations, bus terminals, power facilities, and oil and gas installations across the state.
AIDDN’s National President, Mrs. Omotola Jokotola, expressed appreciation for the NSCDC’s sustained support, particularly acknowledging the Lagos Command’s consistent representation at disability advocacy platforms. She also commended Assistant Commandant of Corps Bolanle Adeniran, Head of the PWD Unit, for her dedication to addressing the concerns of vulnerable populations.
Other notable attendees at the forum included Dr. Adebukola Adebayo, Chief Consultant at Inclusive Development Consults Ltd (IDCL); Dr. Philip Adeleke, AIDDN Board of Trustees Member; and Mrs. Modinat Tijani, Managing Director of IDCL and lead policy consultant.
