The Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, has cautioned corps members against the misuse of social media platforms to spread false information or incite the public against constituted authorities.
Mrs. Salmwang gave the warning during the official closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch “A” Stream One orientation course held at the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
She urged corps members to be responsible digital citizens, emphasizing the need to use social media to promote peace, unity, and the core values of the NYSC scheme, rather than to stir disaffection or disrespect for authority.
“As ambassadors of the NYSC and future leaders, you are expected to be agents of positive change, not instruments of disharmony in society,” she said.
The State Coordinator also advised corps members to make meaningful contributions to their host communities through impactful service during their primary assignments. She appealed to employers to provide a conducive working environment and take proper care of corps members to enable them perform at their best.
On safety, Mrs. Salmwang warned against unauthorized travel, urging corps members to always use designated motor parks and avoid risky journeys without proper clearance.
In a goodwill message delivered at the event, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare and security of corps members in the state. He encouraged them to actively support the state’s efforts in delivering social and economic reforms to uplift the lives of residents.
The event was rounded off with the presentation of commendation awards to outstanding corps members and NYSC staff who distinguished themselves during the three-week orientation exercise.
