The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has appointed former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and elder statesman, Oba Olu Falae, as Chairman of its National Executive Committee.
The appointment was approved by Afenifere’s National Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, during the group’s monthly general meeting held at his Akure residence. The meeting was attended by key figures including former Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Chief Kole Omololu, and Chief Tokunbo Ajasin.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jare Ajayi, stated that Oba Falae’s mandate includes initiating internal reforms and fostering greater unity within the group to effectively champion the interests of the Yoruba people.
On national issues, Afenifere urged President Bola Tinubu, on the second anniversary of his administration, to urgently tackle escalating security concerns, particularly kidnappings and killings across parts of the country. The group also called for economic policies that deliver real benefits to citizens and pressed for the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ilesa road, describing its current state as a “death trap.”
Reacting to his appointment, Oba Olu Falae, who also serves as the Olu of Ilu-Abo in Akure North, pledged to consolidate diverse interests within the Yoruba nation and reinforce Afenifere’s mission of defending Yoruba values and welfare.
