The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, is set to flag off an automated street numbering and Geographic Information System (GIS) data capturing project today Friday, September 19, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
The initiative, which will take place across the local government area, marks a major step toward modernizing the rapidly expanding coastal and urban communities of Ibeju-Lekki. The project is designed to provide a structured addressing system and a reliable database that will support both governance and development.
Officials say the programme is in line with the Lagos State Government’s 20-Year Development Plan (2024–2044), which seeks to create sustainable urban hubs through innovation, technology, and proper planning. The exercise is expected to transform the area from unaddressed rural settlements into well-organized communities with improved access to services.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Hon. Olowa described the project as a landmark achievement that will bring long-term benefits to residents. “With this initiative, we are not only giving our communities proper identity through street numbering, but also positioning Ibeju-Lekki for modern development and economic growth. It is about safety, efficiency, and preparing for the future,” he said.
Residents are expected to benefit from the project in several ways. Emergency services and public safety agencies will have faster response times with a clear street numbering system. Businesses and logistics operators will also enjoy improved efficiency in deliveries and service coverage, while property owners are expected to see a rise in real estate value.
In addition to boosting economic opportunities, the local government said the project would enhance infrastructure planning, community cohesion, and equitable access to social services.
Ibeju-Lekki has continued to experience rapid growth in population and investment, with major infrastructure and industrial projects currently underway. The GIS and automated street numbering initiative is regarded as a key step in managing this growth while preparing the area for its future role as a strategic hub in Lagos State.
