Ondo State Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa has promised to put an end to the level of litigation surrounding chieftaincy tussles and unnecessary delay in ascension to traditional thrones.
He said his administration will no longer allow stools of traditional rulers to be unnecessarily vacant.
The governor made the statement at the opening ceremony of a public hearing on draft of Chieftaincy Declaration held in the state.
Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Amidu Takuro, governor Ayedatiwa described as unacceptable a situation whereby stools of monarchs would be vacant for over 10 years due to litigation or other factors.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed dissatisfaction over the rate of litigations surrounding Chieftaincy tussles across the state, stressing the need for the state government to intervene by coming up with documents that would address succeesion plans for every traditional rulers.
He said the draft of Chieftaincy Declaration was aimed at making Ondo State a model for other states to emulate and to put an end to unnecessary delay in throne accesion in all towns and communities in the state.
Some traditional rulers in attendance were optimistic that the step taken by the state government would address crises rocking chieftaincy related issues in the state.
