The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Osun State Sector Command has given owners of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles a two-week deadline to comply with registration requirements or face an enforcement clampdown.
Sector Commander, Mr. Leye Adegboyega, issued the ultimatum in a statement signed by the Sector’s Public Education Officer, Mrs. Agnes Ogungbemi, as part of activities commemorating the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week.
Commander Adegboyega raised alarm over the growing number of unregistered and improperly registered vehicles, particularly those bearing fake or dealer number plates, plying major and minor roads across the state. He warned that such vehicles pose serious security and economic risks, as they are often used for criminal activities and contribute to significant revenue loss for the government.
He further noted that a large number of motorcycles operating under the guise of commercial transport are also involved in illegal acts, citing intelligence reports from security agencies.
According to him, the FRSC, in collaboration with the Osun State Board of Internal Revenue and other relevant agencies, will begin a coordinated enforcement operation once the two-week grace period lapses. The operation will focus on Osogbo and its surrounding areas.
In addition to registration compliance, the Sector Commander announced a renewed crackdown on route violations, particularly on highways and township roads. He cited recent tragedies as a result of wrong-way driving, including the deaths of 31 persons in two days in February 2024 and the tragic loss of six Osun State University students in March 2025.
To address this, the FRSC has expanded its Special Intervention Patrols across strategic locations in the state, including the East and West Bypass in Osogbo.
Reaffirming the theme of the 2025 United Nations Global Road Safety Week – “Streets for Life: #MakeWalkingSafe, #MakeCyclingSafe” – Commander Adegboyega urged the public, civil society, and the media to support collective action toward safer roads and communities.
