More than 500,000 vulnerable individuals have been registered in Nasarawa State as potential beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, aimed at supporting low-income households across the country.
The disclosure was made by the State Programme Manager of the Conditional Cash Transfer Office, Mrs. Rhoda Agbawu, during a one-day capacity-building workshop held in Lafia for Local Government facilitators across the state. The workshop focused on community sensitisation and grassroots mobilisation, key components to ensure the effective delivery of the programme.
Over 250 facilitators drawn from the 13 Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State participated in the training, which featured technical sessions on public engagement, town hall outreach, and improved communication strategies. The workshop also introduced participants to newly adopted protocols for fund disbursement, following recent updates in the programme’s payment process.
Speaking through the Head of Operations, Alhaji Usman Abubakar, Mrs. Agbawu confirmed that more than 48,000 households in the state have already received initial payments under the scheme. However, she noted that many beneficiaries still struggle with financial literacy and accessing funds through formal banking systems. She urged the facilitators to prioritise transparency, accountability, and empathy in guiding beneficiaries toward using the funds to support sustainable livelihood initiatives.
Also addressing participants, the State Coordinator of the Social Safety Net Programme, Mr. Hussaini Musa, and a resource person, Mallam Iskilu Sale, emphasised the need for community-level collaboration and shared insights into recent policy reforms designed to enhance efficiency and prevent delays in payment.
Two facilitators, Mr. Musa Ibrahim and Mrs. Nancy Paul, expressed their commitment to ensuring that the implementation of the programme in their localities aligns with the core goals of poverty alleviation and economic empowerment.
The workshop featured paper presentations, breakout sessions, and interactive discussions that addressed key implementation challenges and proposed community-driven solutions.
The Conditional Cash Transfer initiative is part of the broader National Social Investment Programme under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration. It targets around 15 million households nationwide, with each beneficiary household expected to receive ₦75,000 in three instalments.
