The Enugu State Police Command has made notable progress in its sustained efforts to combat armed robbery and related criminal activities, arresting two suspects and recovering firearms, a snatched motorcycle, and other exhibits in separate operations across the state.
In one of the operations, police operatives attached to the Nenwe and Owelle-Court Divisions, in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch and Forest Guards, apprehended a 27-year-old suspect, Okonkwo Chukwuebuka, for armed robbery, while his accomplice escaped.
According to the Command, preliminary investigation revealed that on 30th September 2025, the suspects boarded a commercial motorcycle in Nenwe community, Aninri Local Government Area, and subsequently robbed the rider at gunpoint. They were later intercepted by security operatives while attempting to flee the area. A cut-to-size gun and the stolen motorcycle were recovered from the arrested suspect.
In another intelligence-led operation conducted on 28th September 2025, operatives of the Command’s Octopus Squad arrested another 27-year-old male suspect, Ibe Christian, at about 10:00 a.m. A locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol and a dagger were recovered from him. The police said discreet investigation into the case is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the professionalism and synergy displayed by police operatives and other local security stakeholders involved in the operations.
He also urged residents of Enugu State to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to continue supporting the Police with credible information that can help rid the state of criminal elements.
The Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining the tempo of proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and partnership with communities to enhance peace and public safety across the state.
