Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have made significant strides in the fight against cultism with the arrest of ten suspected cult members in two separate operations carried out within the last week of April. The raids also led to the recovery of firearms, dangerous weapons, and the rescue of a victim from a brutal attack.
In the first operation, conducted in the early hours of April 29, 2025, around 1:30 a.m., a police team acting on credible intelligence apprehended eight suspected cultists in the Sabo-Yaba area. Those arrested include Ayomide Daniel (30), Afeez Enitan (28), Mayor Samson (28), Olamilekan Adeagbo (26) alias “Skinny,” Quadri Sikiru (26), Mariam Salihu (23), Adeyemo Abdulsamad (24) alias “Cloud,” and Basit Ishola (20).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have been linked to multiple cult-related killings in and around the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) and surrounding neighborhoods. The police recovered one Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, an additional unexpended cartridge, two battle axes, and two cutlasses during the operation.
According to the police, the suspects are currently assisting with ongoing investigations as efforts continue to dismantle cult networks operating in educational institutions and urban communities across Lagos.
In a related development, on April 27, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded swiftly to a distress call reporting a violent assault in the Alagbado area. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Quadri, was reportedly attacked by two armed men for refusing to join their cult group.
The suspects, Riliwan Afuape (26) and Bamidele Ayobami (29), were arrested at the scene and taken into custody. Quadri, who sustained a deep machete wound on his right hand, was immediately rushed to Ile-Epo General Hospital for treatment and is currently receiving medical care.
Preliminary inquiries confirmed that the attack was an act of intimidation and punishment by the suspects after the victim resisted efforts to recruit him into their cult. The police have promised to ensure the suspects face the full wrath of the law.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to curbing cultism and associated violence, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly and work with law enforcement to rid communities of criminal elements.
