Police, Immigration Training Commandants Forge Stronger Interagency Ties in Kano

In a significant move to strengthen interagency cooperation within Nigeria’s security sector, the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Patrick A. Atayero received Comptroller Idris Ozigi, Commandant of the Nigeria Immigration Training School, Kano, on a courtesy visit to the Academy.

The visit centered on enhancing collaboration in critical areas such as training, discipline, and security capacity building. Both training institutions serve as pivotal entry points for grooming law enforcement personnel and have increasingly recognized the need for synergy to address Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

The Nigeria Police Academy, established in 1988 and elevated to a degree-awarding institution in 2012, trains cadets for officer-level positions in the Nigeria Police Force. Similarly, the Nigeria Immigration Training School, Kano, is responsible for the foundational and advanced training of immigration officers, equipping them with the skills to manage border security and migration effectively.

Interestingly, both AIG Atayero and Comptroller Ozigi are serving as the 24th Commandants of their respective institutions, highlighting a parallel in their leadership paths. Their shared experience and alignment in rank reflect a common vision for institutional advancement and national security development.

During the engagement, both commandants emphasized the importance of regular exchanges, joint exercises, and curriculum development aimed at harmonizing law enforcement standards. They agreed that cross-agency learning and collaboration would better prepare officers to respond to modern threats, including cross-border crimes and internal insurgencies.

The meeting concluded with mutual pledges to institutionalise the cooperation through formal frameworks and regular dialogue. According to DSP Umar Musa Isah, Police Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Academy, the visit marked a progressive step toward building a more integrated and professional national security training system.
