The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into allegations raised in a viral video by a retired Superintendent of Police regarding the welfare and retirement benefits of police pensioners.
According to a press release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector-General has directed the Nigeria Police Force Pensions Limited to urgently scrutinize the claims made in the video, identify any administrative lapses, and ensure that corrective action is taken promptly.
“The Nigeria Police Force is not insensitive to the plight of its pensioners, many of whom have dedicated decades of service to the security and stability of our nation,” the statement read.
The IGP emphasized that the welfare of both serving and retired personnel remains a top priority for the Force. He acknowledged that while efforts are ongoing to strengthen the pension administration system, constructive criticism—such as the issues raised in the video—serves as a valuable tool for prompting reforms and institutional improvement.
In his reassurance, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to building a fair and efficient welfare system that honours the sacrifices of its officers. He urged both retirees and active-duty personnel, along with their families, to remain calm and patient as the investigation progresses and engagement with relevant agencies is carried out to deliver lasting solutions.
The IGP’s directive underscores a broader effort by the police leadership to restore trust, accountability, and transparency in the management of officers’ post-service entitlements.
