Police PROs Move to Tackle Misinformation as IGP Declares 2025 National Conference Open

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to combat misinformation and strengthen public trust as Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) from across the country converge on Abuja for the 2025 National PPROs Conference.
The conference, holding at the Police Resource Centre, was declared open by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who charged all PPROs to elevate the standard of policing communication nationwide.

IGP Egbetokun, in a firm directive, reminded officers that their role extends far beyond issuing statements, stressing that they are now strategic communicators whose actions directly influence public confidence in the Force.
He said PPROs must serve as advisers to Commands, manage crisis communication, build stakeholder relationships, and defend the institutional integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.

Representing the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, DSP Musa Isah Umar is among participants engaging in technical sessions focused on modern communication strategies, proactive policing narratives, media relations, digital information management, and rebuilding police-public trust.

The conference theme, “Empowering Communication, Enhancing Trust,” underscores the Police leadership’s renewed emphasis on transparency and professionalism in public engagement.

The Nigeria Police Academy reaffirmed that its participation aligns with its commitment to strengthening ethical communication and supporting national reforms geared toward modern, community-focused policing.
