The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 23 kidnapped victims in a series of coordinated operations across Niger and Enugu States, further demonstrating its commitment to tackling violent crime and enhancing internal security nationwide.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operations took place between February and May 2025 and targeted several kidnapping gangs operating in forests and remote areas.
In Niger State, five individuals were abducted on February 20 during a night-time attack on Hayin-Dogo and Dangunu villages in the Sarkin-Pawa area of Munya Local Government Area. While one victim, Usman Daina, was released after two days, sustained efforts by the police and other security agencies led to the successful rescue of the remaining four victims—Deborah Daina, Gambo Amos, Cyprus Titus, and Satti Iko—on May 22. All were safely reunited with their families.
In Enugu State, police operatives recorded multiple breakthroughs in separate rescue operations. On May 16, two men abducted from the Ezimo community were found and freed from a forest in Amalla-Egazi. Days later, operatives tracked another group of kidnappers to Uvuru-Ukpata forest in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, where they engaged the criminals in a gun battle. Nine victims kidnapped along the Olo-Umulokpa Road were rescued unharmed.
On May 23, in a joint operation with local security groups, police stormed a forest along the Enugu-Kogi border while pursuing another gang of kidnappers. One suspect was neutralized during a shootout, while others fled with gunshot wounds. Eight more hostages were successfully rescued in that operation, bringing the total number of freed victims to 23.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun praised the courage and professionalism of the officers involved. He also acknowledged the critical support of local security outfits and community members, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in combating insecurity.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks and making our communities safer for all citizens,” the IGP stated, reaffirming the Force’s determination to bring fleeing suspects to justice and prevent further acts of violence.
