POWA National Convention Closes in Lagos with Celebration of Talent and Unity

The 2025 National Convention of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) came to a colourful close in Lagos, marking three days of strategic engagement, empowerment, and celebration of womanhood.
Held in Nigeria’s commercial capital, the closing day was highlighted by a Talent Contest and Convention Dinner, both designed to offer a relaxing atmosphere and showcase the diverse skills and creativity among POWA members from across the 17 zones of the association.
The National President of POWA, Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, described the convention as a resounding success, stating that the interactions and learning moments had been inspiring and energizing. She noted that the three-day gathering not only strengthened unity among members but also revealed remarkable, often hidden, talents among participants. She urged contestants in the talent contest to embrace the spirit of healthy competition and make the most of the opportunity to shine.
Representing the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, commended the leadership style and passion of the POWA president, which she said had consistently reflected excellence and love. She encouraged women to carry this spirit forward as they return to their respective states, noting that women have continued to prove their capacity in every field, often surpassing expectations.
She also reminded attendees of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s deep commitment to women empowerment, citing his recognition as the first state leader in Nigeria to win the United Nations ‘HeForShe’ award, an international honour celebrating male champions of gender equality.
The convention climaxed with a variety of performances under the “Talent Hunt” session, where POWA members displayed creativity through speech presentations, cultural dance, singing, pageantry, catwalks, and best-dressed showcases. The dinner served as a celebratory moment to unwind after days of interactive sessions, workshops, and leadership activities.
Organizers emphasized that the event was not only about entertainment but also a platform to reinforce shared values, foster unity, and promote personal development among police officers’ families. Participants were encouraged to replicate the lessons and energy from the Lagos convention in their states to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The 2025 POWA Convention underscored the evolving role of women in leadership, unity-building, and social transformation across police communities and Nigeria at large.
