Anambra State police have launched an investigation after the lifeless body of a yet-to-be-identified pregnant woman was discovered hanging from a cashew tree in a secluded area along the Uke-Ideani road in Idemili North Local Government Area.
Local residents made the shocking discovery in a nearby bush and alerted authorities. A disturbing video circulating on social media shows the woman hanging by a rope, with her phone and slippers found on the ground beneath her—leading many to speculate that she may have taken her own life. However, the circumstances remain unclear.
At the time of reporting, the woman’s identity had not been confirmed, as witnesses were unable to recognize her due to the position of her body.
In a statement released on May 6, 2025, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed that an investigation is underway. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the incident as a “tragic example of man’s inhumanity to man” and urged community leaders and residents of Idemili North to come forward with any information that could help unravel the mystery behind the suspected murder.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, added that officers from the Ogidi Police Division have recovered the body and deposited it at a local mortuary. Authorities are appealing to the public to assist in identifying the deceased as investigations continue.
