PSC Chairman Warns Against Bribery as Police Inspectors’ Promotion Interviews Begin May 19

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced that the Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interviews for the promotion of senior Police Inspectors to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II) will commence on Monday, May 19, 2025. The interviews are set to take place across the 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters nationwide.

In a firm message to all candidates, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd.), mni, warned against any form of financial inducement during the promotion process. He stressed that any officer found contributing or collecting money to influence the outcome of the interviews would face severe sanctions, including public disgrace.

“The Commission will not tolerate the corrupt practice of candidates pooling money for interview officials, whether from the Commission or the Police,” DIG Argungu stated. “We are determined to end this unethical conduct and restore integrity to the promotion process.”

To ensure transparency, the PSC will deploy staff to all zonal headquarters to conduct the interviews in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force. The Chairman emphasized that future promotions will be strictly merit-based and dependent on the availability of vacancies.

He urged officers preparing for the DSB interviews to rely on their competence and professionalism rather than illicit means, noting that the Commission remains committed to building a capable and disciplined police force dedicated to maintaining national security and public order.
