The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the commencement of Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interviews for Inspectors seeking promotion to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP II). The exercise is set to begin on Monday, May 19, across all 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters nationwide.
To ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the process, PSC staff have been deployed to supervise the interviews alongside senior police officers. Commissioners of the PSC are also expected to oversee the exercise within their respective geo-political zones.
Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Argungu (mni), reiterated that the promotion process must not be reduced to a “do-or-die” affair. He warned that any attempt to compromise the integrity of the exercise would be met with strict disciplinary action.
Argungu emphasized that all promotions within the Nigeria Police Force are grounded in merit and subject to available vacancies. He advised officers appearing before the panel to approach the interview with professionalism and readiness, as promotions will be earned—not given.
“The Commission is committed to nurturing a modern police culture built on merit, competence, and innovation, particularly in this age of intelligence-led policing,” the Chairman stated. He urged all candidates to trust the process and allow for a smooth and credible selection exercise.
