The Police Service Commission (PSC) has expressed deep shock over the death of its former Chairman, DIG Parry Osayande (rtd.), describing him as an exemplary police officer and visionary leader whose tenure strengthened the Commission during its formative years.
DIG Osayande, who passed away early Sunday in Benin City, Edo State, was appointed Chairman of the Commission in April 2008 by then President Goodluck Jonathan. He succeeded Chief Simon Okeke, the pioneer chairman, and steered the Commission through a period of notable growth, including securing presidential approval for its corporate headquarters now located in the Jabi District of Abuja.
In a statement signed by PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission praised Osayande’s fearless and focused leadership, noting that his commanding presence gave the institution mileage and credibility in its early years.
Reacting to the news, the current Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd., mni), said Osayande’s death was a great loss, particularly as it came barely a month after the passing of another former chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase. He urged Nigerians to remember the Commission in their prayers during what he described as a difficult period.
Osayande, widely regarded as an erudite police officer and reform advocate, served meritoriously in the Nigeria Police Force before his appointment as PSC Chairman.
