Thirty senior police officers, including one Assistant Inspector General (AIG), two Commissioners of Police (CPs), eleven Deputy Commissioners (DCPs), and sixteen Assistant Commissioners (ACPs), on Monday sat for the compulsory promotion examination introduced by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The exercise, which held at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall of the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, is part of new reforms to standardize career progression in the Nigeria Police Force.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), who supervised the exercise, said the examination has become an integral component of promotion processes and would help restore professionalism and dignity within the Force.
Argungu stressed that the Commission would no longer tolerate incompetence in leadership ranks, noting that any officer who fails the examination three times would be retired.
“The world has since embraced the era of skill, and police officers who want to advance in their career must be prepared to embrace the demands of this era,” he said.
He also disclosed that the Commission is strengthening due diligence mechanisms to ensure accuracy in promotion processes and to prevent errors such as promoting deceased or retired officers.
Present at the examination were PSC Commissioners including retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, retired Justice Christine Ladi Dabup, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), DIG Uba Bala Ringim (rtd), and Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed.
The officers who participated in Monday’s written test are expected to appear on Tuesday for an oral interview as part of the promotion process.
