The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred earlier today along the Ikota-Ajah axis of the Lekki-Ajah corridor, near Ikota School.
The incident involved a white Ford Jeep (registration number: KWL 574 CY) and a fully loaded commercial mini-bus (plate number: FST 207 YK). Preliminary investigations suggest that the Ford Jeep was traveling at an excessive speed when the driver lost control and violently collided with the mini-bus.
The crash caused significant damage to the commercial vehicle and left two individuals in critical condition. The mini-bus driver sustained a severe fracture to his right arm and was rendered comatose, while one passenger suffered acute nasal bleeding and lost consciousness at the scene.
LASTMA officers responded swiftly to the emergency, promptly evacuating the injured victims to a nearby hospital and managing traffic to avoid secondary incidents. Their efforts were reinforced by officers from the Ajiwe Divisional Police Headquarters, who provided additional security and support at the crash site.
Commenting on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, highlighted the persistent dangers posed by reckless driving.
“Excessive speed remains one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents. We urge all motorists to drive responsibly and prioritize safety over speed,” he stated.
