The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against cultism and violent crime with the arrest of two suspected members of the notorious Iceland cult group linked to the murder of late Superintendent of Police Bako Angbashim, former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, operatives attached to the Command’s Octopus Tactical Unit acted on credible intelligence to launch a successful operation in Ikata Community, Ahoada East Local Government Area.
On May 3, 2025, the operatives apprehended one Lovegod Goodluck, a male resident of the community. Recovered from the suspect were a locally made single-barrel firearm and two live cartridges. Goodluck is alleged to be a member of the late “2Baba”-led Iceland cult group, which has been responsible for a wave of violence in the region, including the killing of SP Angbashim.
Further intelligence-led follow-up operations on June 13, 2025, led to the arrest of another suspect, identified as Precious Olumini, who had previously escaped law enforcement pursuit. During his arrest, police recovered an English-made pump-action shotgun and a locally fabricated pistol.
Both suspects have confessed to being members of the Iceland cult group, notorious for its criminal activities in the Ahoada-East axis of Rivers State. The suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue. The command has intensified efforts to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional weapons.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, has commended the professionalism and diligence of the tactical unit. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ridding Rivers State of criminal elements and restoring peace and security in all communities.
The police have called on residents to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information to aid in ongoing operations.
