The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended seven suspects in connection with the killing of Barrister Bright Owhor, who was murdered by gunmen on July 6, 2025, at his residence on Market Road, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command disclosed that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an intensive investigation following the incident. Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, the team utilized intelligence gathering and technical surveillance over a ten-day period to track down and arrest the suspects.
Those arrested include Prince Samuel, aged 30, who allegedly acted as the armed operative; Daniel Godwin, 25, the suspected getaway driver; Henry Peter, 24, who allegedly supplied the firearm and pulled the trigger; Godfrey Emmanuel, also known as Ibu, aged 30, believed to be the gang leader; Chukwu Nneji, 34; Justice Dimkpa, 27; and Promise Wikere, 22, who is suspected to have handled the stolen vehicles.
During interrogation, all suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group. They admitted to their involvement in the murder of the legal practitioner, as well as the withdrawal of money from his bank account. The suspects also confessed to participating in recent cult clashes between the BS and G12 factions of the group in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt.
Recovered items from the operation include one MTN SIM card, four locally made pistols, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, a mini bus, and a Toyota Camry.
The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their swift and effective response, noting that the arrests represent a significant breakthrough in the Command’s efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while restoring public trust in law enforcement.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned after the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
