In a high-risk operation on May 25, 2025, operatives of the Rumuji Division under the Rivers State Police Command neutralized a suspected notorious kidnapper and murderer, David Uzoma Kamalu, also known as M-Kaze, during a tactical raid on a criminal hideout in Rumuodogu 1 Community, Emohua Local Government Area.
The operation, which began around 1:00 a.m., followed days of intensive intelligence gathering and surveillance, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko. Officers came under heavy gunfire from the gang, resulting in a firefight during which M-Kaze was killed. Several other suspects fled with gunshot wounds.
Recovered from the scene were:
One pump-action shotgun
Two live cartridges
Multiple local charms suspected to be used for protection and intimidation
M-Kaze was a high-profile target linked to multiple violent crimes, including the gruesome murder and beheading of a local security operative, Mr. Alete, also known as “Hunter Commander,” in January 2025. He was also implicated in several high-profile kidnappings and armed robberies along the East-West Road corridor, prompting the placement of a bounty on him by the then Chairman of Emohua LGA.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are intensifying efforts to track and arrest fleeing gang members. The public is urged to report anyone with gunshot injuries or suspicious behavior to the nearest security agency.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety and pledged continued efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates threatening peace in the state.
