The Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA) has called on affluent individuals, religious institutions, and multinational organisations to extend consistent support to the vulnerable—especially orphans—across the country.
National President of ROSOWA, Dr. Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed, made the appeal during a humanitarian outreach in Abuja, where the association donated food items and essentials to two orphanage homes as part of activities commemorating the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week.
Dr. Shehu-Mohammed emphasized that the initiative reflects ROSOWA’s enduring commitment to easing the burden on the less privileged while giving them a sense of belonging and dignity. She explained that the gesture also aligns with the broader message of the UN Road Safety Week, which goes beyond traffic enforcement to encompass the protection and well-being of all lives—particularly society’s most vulnerable.
“In line with the objectives of the United Nations Global Road Safety Week, we believe that road safety is not just about managing traffic but about valuing human lives,” she said. “Children are especially affected by unsafe roads, and as we advocate for safer environments, we must also meet their immediate needs.”
The ROSOWA President further urged members of the public, particularly those with means, to emulate the association’s compassion by supporting vulnerable groups within their communities. “Everyone has a role to play in building a more inclusive and compassionate society,” she added.
At the Hope for Survival Orphanage, one of the beneficiaries, the Administrator Mr. Cephas Stadius expressed deep appreciation for the donation, describing it as both timely and impactful. “We are truly grateful to ROSOWA for remembering us, especially during a time of financial strain. This support will go a long way in meeting the children’s daily needs,” he said.
A representative of Mother Theresa Orphanage, also a beneficiary, lauded ROSOWA’s consistency in reaching out, noting that such support not only meets material needs but also boosts the morale of the children. “This is not the first time ROSOWA has extended support to us. Their kindness gives our children hope and reminds them they are not forgotten,” she stated.
The 8th UN Global Road Safety Week, themed “Streets for Life: Make Walking Safe, Make Cycling Safe,” advocates for inclusive and sustainable transport systems that prioritize the safety of all road users, especially pedestrians and cyclists.
ROSOWA’s outreach reflects this call for inclusive safety, reminding the public that protecting lives also means caring for the most vulnerable off the roads.
