In the wake of recent allegations of violence against the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) president, socio-political group The Collective Movement (TCM) has called for a strategic partnership with NANS to address critical issues affecting students and Nigerian youth.
Founder of TCM, High Chief Franklin Ekechukwu, made the proposal during a virtual meeting on Saturday, expressing deep concern over the reported attacks, which have cast a shadow on the safety and integrity of student leadership in the country. The initiative, he said, is aimed at fostering unity and amplifying the voices of Nigerian students.
The NANS president had previously alleged incidents of bribery, torture, and abduction, reportedly involving individuals with links to the presidency but lacking official political roles. These claims have stirred widespread public concern and renewed scrutiny of the state of student governance in Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by TCM Director of Media, Mr.Edwin Nwachukwu, TCM believes that forging a partnership with NANS will help to confront shared challenges, from protecting student rights and leadership to tackling broader socio-economic issues. “By working together, both groups aim to leverage their collective strengths to drive positive change and promote the welfare of students and citizens alike,” Ekechukwu stated.
He outlined key areas for collaboration, including advocacy for better education funding, infrastructure improvements, and youth empowerment initiatives. He also stressed the need for open and transparent communication to ensure the success of joint programs.
“The synergy between TCM and NANS will amplify the voices of Nigerian students and ensure that their concerns are addressed by the appropriate authorities,” he added. Ekechukwu further emphasized that fostering stability and credible student representation is vital to restoring public trust in student governance.” Mr. Nwachukwu stated.
Concluding his remarks, Ekechukwu reaffirmed TCM’s commitment to promoting unity and meaningful impact through sustained collaboration. “Our combined efforts can bring about real change in national policies and positively transform the lives of young Nigerians,” he said.
