Tragedy on Eko Bridge: Two Dispatch Riders Killed as Mack Trucks Collide

A deadly collision involving two Mack trucks on Eko Bridge inward Alaka has claimed the lives of two dispatch riders, sending shockwaves through the Lagos commuting community.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident occurred when a driver, reportedly speeding and drowsy, lost control of his truck and rammed into another moving vehicle. The resulting impact dislodged a 20-foot container, which fatally crushed the dispatch riders navigating the corridor.

The trucks involved bore registration numbers T-10357 LA and KJA 107 XM.

LASTMA officers on patrol beneath the bridge responded swiftly, rescuing one critically injured truck driver who was rushed to a hospital via a Lagos State ambulance. However, two other truck drivers reportedly fled the scene.

To prevent further danger, traffic was immediately diverted via the Costain Roundabout toward Alaka and Stadium.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and called for greater caution among heavy-duty vehicle operators. He stressed the importance of alertness and vehicle roadworthiness, highlighting the agency’s ongoing public awareness campaigns.

Authorities have launched investigations to locate the fleeing drivers.

Emergency response teams at the scene included LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LSNSC), SEHMU, and officers from the Iporin Police Division.
