The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in 2024 arrested 1,077 suspected criminals and recovered the sum of ₦285 million from fraud-related crimes.
Spokesperson for the FCT Command, Mrs. Josephine Adeh, said the Command recorded a total of 1,426 reported cases while 1,077 suspects were arrested for various crimes that included kidnapping, armed robbery, car theft, and fraud.
She said that in the fight against kidnapping, 216 suspects were arrested, 68 victims rescued, and 38 suspects prosecuted, resulting in 21 convictions.
According to Mrs. Adeh the fight against armed robbery led to the arrest of 132 suspects, the recovery of ₦68.5 million, and 11 convictions while 422 suspects were apprehended for fraud, with ₦285 million recovered and 58 convictions secured.
” In cases of car theft, 64 suspects were arrested, 73 stolen vehicles were recovered, and 11 convictions were obtained. The Command also recovered various items, including 376 firearms, among them 13 AK-47 magazines and 187 rounds of ammunition.
“Financial recoveries amounted to ₦409.9 million, which included ₦36.8 million from kidnapping suspects and ₦285 million from fraud cases. Additionally, 73 stolen vehicles were retrieved, many of which were linked to car thefts, “one-chance” robberies, and cult-related activities”, she added.
In a statement, the command noted that the Commissioner of police, Mr. Tunji Disu’s strategic interventions, including robust community policing, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with sister agencies resulted in a 15.1% reduction in crime cases in 2024 compared to 2023.

The Command also honoured the sacrifices of 140 police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty saying that their dedication and service to ensuring the safety of FCT residents were acknowledged and deeply appreciated.
Looking ahead, Mr. Disu has unveiled strategic plans to intensify its fight against crime in a bid to further enhance the safety and security of the Federal Capital Territory.
The Command plans to intensify community policing engagements, intelligence-driven operations, and public sensitization campaigns to address emerging security challenges.
The FCT Police Command under the leadership of the commissioner of police, Mr. Tunji Disu reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the nation’s capital while wishing all residents a prosperous 2025.
The arrest and recovery of the millions of naira from suspects was achieved within the spate of 100 days in office by the extra ordinary CP Disu.
