Assistant Inspector General of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has been honoured with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council’s Crime Fighter of the Year Award in recognition of his contributions to crime prevention, public safety and policing reforms in Nigeria.
The award was presented during a colourful ceremony in Abuja attended by top government officials, senior security officers, media executives and stakeholders from different sectors. Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, presented the award to the senior police officer.
Other notable personalities honoured at the event included the Editor-in-Chief of Leadership Newspaper, Azu Ishiekwene; Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; and former NUJ President, Christopher Isiguzo.
The recognition comes amid growing commendation for Jimoh’s leadership style, operational strategies and contributions to intelligence-led policing within the Nigeria Police Force.
Widely regarded as an experienced police officer with a strong background in public relations and operations, Jimoh has served in several strategic capacities since joining the Nigeria Police Force in May 2000.
A native of Ilorin in Kwara State, the senior police officer holds a degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University and later underwent formal police training at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
Over the years, he has served as the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police at the Airport Police Command, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration in Oyo State Command.
Jimoh also participated in international peacekeeping operations under the African Union Mission in Sudan, where he reportedly earned commendations for his role in peace-building efforts in Darfur.
His professional training spans areas such as crime prevention, maritime rescue operations, anti-hijacking tactics, law enforcement management and leadership development, with programmes attended both locally and internationally.
Before his current appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police, Eastern Ports Command, Port Harcourt, and later as Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.
Observers at the event described the award as recognition of his professionalism, consistency and efforts toward strengthening public confidence in policing and security management.
Jimoh has also received several commendations and professional honours over the years, including recognition from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and other professional bodies for contributions to public service and strategic communication.
