Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and other incriminating items during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected kidnappers in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, carried out by officers attached to the Igbo-Eze North Division, took place on May 17, 2026, at a forest located along the Amufie–Obollo-Afor boundary.
According to the command, the raid followed directives by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, for intensified intelligence-driven operations against criminal hideouts and black spots across Enugu State.
Police operatives reportedly came under heavy gunfire from armed suspects believed to be kidnappers upon approaching the hideout. The officers, however, responded with superior firepower, forcing the suspects to flee into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot injuries.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, 64 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, a red TVS Neo-NX motorcycle and other exhibits linked to criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for the successful operation and directed sustained manhunt efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.
The Enugu State Police Command maintained that intelligence-led policing remains a key strategy in its efforts to improve public safety and combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
