The Commissioner of Police, Lagos state Command, Mr. Moshood Jimoh has advised road users, particularly motorists, to strictly comply with traffic rules/laws, speed limits and safe driving practices.
CP Jimoh gave the advice against the backdrop of a 12 yr old girl and her sibling that was hit by a driver plying restricted BRT lane around Ogundare bus stop along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Monday.
One of the two female siblings that were hit by the fast moving vehicle has given up the ghost.
The 12 yr old girl and her 15 yr old sister were said to be on their way back from school when the yet to be identified driver plying the BRT lane on high speed hit them and ran away.
Lagos police spokesman Mr Benjamin Hundeyin said that the victims were rushed to Orile Agege general hospital due to severe injuries but the 12 yr old girl died while receiving treatment.
He stated that her sibling had been transferred to the Lagos state University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, for further treatment.
Mr. Hundeyin however said the commissioner of police Mr. Moshood Jimoh has instituted a speedy, detailed and conclusive investigation to apprehend the runaway driver.
He said the police boss ,Mr. Jimoh has also commiserated with family members of the victims over the unfortunate indecent and expressed the confidence that the command would get to the root of the matter and ensure that justice would be served.
