Enugu Police Commissioner Leads Patrol in Uzo-Uwani, Visits Naval Base to Strengthen Rural Security

In a strategic move to reinforce rural security and foster collaboration among security agencies, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, led a high-level security patrol across several communities in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.

The patrol covered Nimbo, Opanda, Adani, Ogurugu, and Nkpologu—areas known for their agricultural potential but also for past security concerns. The initiative was aimed at boosting public confidence, deterring criminal activities, and deepening inter-agency cooperation in securing remote parts of the state.

As part of the operation, CP Giwa paid visits to both the temporary and permanent sites of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Madueke located within the area. He was received by the Commander of the Naval Base, Commodore A.O. Odejobi, who joined the Commissioner and his team in patrolling the communities. Also present was the Executive Chairman of Uzo-Uwani LGA, Hon. Uzugwu Chijioke.

Addressing community concerns during the visit, CP Giwa reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and its partners to ensuring the safety of lives and property, particularly in rural communities. He emphasized that security agencies in Enugu State are intensifying joint efforts to combat violent crimes and maintain peace.

“Our presence here today is to reassure residents that we are not relenting. We are strengthening cooperation with other security agencies, especially in rural and border communities, to eliminate threats and maintain peace,” CP Giwa said.

He was accompanied by key senior officers, including DCP Gregory Itobore, Head of the Operations Department; ACP Idowu Azeez Moroof, Commanding Officer of No. 3 PMF, Enugu; ACP Oyewole Kehinde Suraju, Head of the State Intelligence Department (SID); and ACP Stephen Gudu, Nsukka Area Commander.

The Enugu State Command urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue to support security efforts by providing credible information that can help prevent and address crime.

The operation underscores the Police Command’s proactive stance in tackling insecurity and ensuring sustained peace in rural parts of the state.
