The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has announced the immediate closure of Al-Ansar Indabo female students’ hostels located at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano.
In a statement issued by the Vice President, Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, the university cited safety concerns, poor living conditions, and violations of institutional rules as reasons for the decision. The hostels are no longer recognized or approved by the university.
“The management has withdrawn its approval for the AL-ANSAR INDABO FEMALE STUDENTS HOSTELS due to non-compliance with university regulations,” the statement said. “This includes incidents of immoral activities, poor water and electricity supply, student violence, unauthorized movements at night, and the sharing of hostel space with unknown tenants.”
The university directed all affected students to vacate the premises immediately after completing their fall semester examinations and warned against any continued association with the hostels.
Dr. Garba emphasized that the measure is part of broader efforts to maintain a secure and morally upright environment for all students, reaffirming MAAUN’s zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct.
