Police Foil Robbery and Vandalism Attempts in Lagos, Recover Firearms and Stolen Property

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of several suspects involved in violent crimes and infrastructure vandalism in different parts of the state. This was disclosed by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, while briefing newsmen in Lagos.

In one of the incidents, which occurred on April 28, 2025, around 7:00 a.m., operatives responded to a distress call from the Suru Alaba community in Ajegunle, where two suspected armed robbers were being beaten by an angry mob. The suspects—identified as Azeez Anafi (25), also known as “Stainless,” and Damilare Brown (25)—were rescued by the police and taken into custody.

According to CSP Hundeyin, a locally made pistol with an expended cartridge and a suspected stolen tricycle were recovered from the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects and their accomplices, who are still at large, had earlier shot and killed a 35-year-old commercial rider named Abubakar while attempting to snatch his motorcycle. His body was evacuated and deposited at a public morgue for autopsy. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.

In a separate operation, carried out on May 6, 2025, at approximately 2:20 a.m., police operatives arrested two suspects engaged in streetlight cable vandalism along the Ijegun-Jakande Road near Fire Junction, Ijegun. Acting on credible intelligence, officers apprehended Jemilu Abdullahi (28) and Samsondeen Isiaku (20) at the scene with several lengths of vandalized streetlight cables. A third suspect managed to escape.

Hundeyin confirmed that the suspects are in police custody and that all recovered exhibits—including weapons, a tricycle, and vandalized cables—have been documented as part of ongoing investigations.

He further assured Lagosians of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that efforts to arrest the remaining suspects in both cases are in full swing. The police urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities promptly to law enforcement authorities.
