Nigeria Police Clarify Viral Helicopter Video, Deny Allegations of Aiding Bandits in Kogi State

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a formal clarification regarding a widely circulated video showing a police helicopter landing and taking off in the Obajana area of Kogi State, amidst a group of armed individuals. Contrary to claims made online suggesting the aircraft was delivering food supplies to bandits, the Force has firmly refuted the allegation, describing it as “false and misleading.”

According to an official statement released on May 13, 2025, the video captures footage from a legitimate security operation conducted on Saturday, May 10. The mission, the Force explained, was a joint effort involving police personnel, local vigilante groups, and hunters, aimed at tackling banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities plaguing the region.

The helicopter was deployed specifically to provide aerial surveillance and support to the ground team, enhancing the effectiveness of the operation through real-time intelligence and mobility.

In the statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urged the public to disregard the “unfounded and mischievous” claims circulating online. He emphasized the importance of relying on verified information from official police channels.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians,” the statement read, adding that the Force will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to strengthen public safety and national security.

The police also reiterated their call for responsible information sharing, especially in sensitive matters relating to national security.
