The remains of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education who was allegedly murdered and dismembered by her social media acquaintance, AbdulRahman Bello, have been laid to rest in Ilorin.
Hafsoh’s body parts, previously held as evidence in an ongoing murder trial, were released to her family by a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin. The interment took place at a cemetery in the Sango area of the Kwara State capital, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Her father, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal Adefalu, confirmed the burial and expressed gratitude for the court’s decision to release his daughter’s remains for proper rites.
The request for release was formally made by the Kwara State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Senior Ibrahim, who leads the prosecution team in the murder case. The defence counsel, Mr. Chukwudi Maduka — representing the primary suspect, AbdulRahman Bello — did not object to the motion, stating that he sympathized with the bereaved family despite the ongoing trial.
Hafsoh’s tragic death has sparked widespread public outrage, underscoring concerns about online safety and the dangers posed by deceptive relationships formed on social media.
