In a significant boost to police welfare and community development, the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has commissioned the POWA Model Children School in Sum, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The commissioning ceremony also featured the groundbreaking for a proposed Police Secondary School, a fundraising initiative to support ongoing educational infrastructure, and an empowerment program tailored for police families and local residents.
In her remarks, POWA President Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Egbetokun emphasized the long-term vision behind the initiative, stating:
“This project is more than bricks and mortar—it represents hope and opportunity. It is a place where our children, future leaders, will receive the quality education needed to shape their minds, build their character, and prepare them for greatness.”
The event was graced by high-ranking dignitaries and stakeholders from within and outside the state. Representing the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, was his Special Adviser on Legal Matters, Hon. Barr. Jidauna Tula, who commended POWA’s efforts and pledged the state’s ongoing support in education and related sectors.
Other notable attendees included the Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Alhaji Yahaya Inuwa, represented by Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar, Secretary to the State Government; Chief Launcher Alhaji Yakubu A. Maishanu, OON, Chairman/CEO of A.Y.M Shafa Holdings (represented by Hajiya Mariya Yakubu Maishanu); and Chairman of the Occasion, Alhaji Bala Wunti.
Also present were the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 12, AIG Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, psc, and his wife; the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State, CP Sanni-Omolori Aliyu, psc(+), mni; alongside other senior officers, POWA members, and distinguished guests.
This initiative marks a key milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s broader mission to improve the welfare of police personnel and invest in the communities they serve. The partnership with POWA highlights a strategic approach to social development through education, empowerment, and inclusive community engagement.
