The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has called for stronger international collaboration among law enforcement agencies to effectively tackle the growing threat of transnational organized crime. He made this call during high-level engagements at the 2025 World Police Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Addressing global police leaders, IGP Egbetokun underscored the need for intelligence-led policing, real-time data exchange, and robust inter-agency coordination to counter the increasingly complex and borderless nature of modern criminal networks.
“As criminal enterprises become more sophisticated and globally interconnected, our responses must be equally proactive, coordinated, and driven by technology,” the IGP stated.
He commended INTERPOL member states for their ongoing support, particularly in aiding the Nigeria Police Force’s success in dismantling transnational crime syndicates. The IGP cited recent collaborative operations facilitated through INTERPOL frameworks that led to the interception of fugitives, trafficking rings, and cybercriminal groups.
Egbetokun reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to global policing cooperation and pledged continued support for international security efforts.
The summit concluded with a grand closing dinner on May 15, attended by top security leaders including the Vice President of INTERPOL Africa, AIG Garba Baba Umar (Rtd.); Ethiopia’s Commissioner General of Police, Demelash Michael Weldeyes; Senegal’s Inspector-General of Police, General Mame Seydou Ndour; and the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri.
Also present were CP Uche Ifeanyi, Director of the Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC), and other senior security chiefs from Africa and beyond.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the People of Determination Excellence Award to Adele Gesso, a distinguished police officer living with disability, recognized for her resilience and exceptional contributions to policing. Her story stood as a powerful testament to the summit’s inclusive vision and human-centred approach to law enforcement.
