Enugu Police Arrest Native Doctor Linked to Cult Group, Recover Firearms from Shrine

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old native doctor, Ejike Emmanuel Chinonso, and recovered firearms and ammunition from his shrine located at Ugwuochie-Iwollo in Ezeagu Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out by the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad on May 15, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, a revolver pistol, one expended and one live .38 special calibre round, and a live cartridge.

According to the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the items were recovered following a confession by the suspect after his arrest. Chinonso reportedly admitted to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity. Police said the suspect will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, praised the operatives for their swift and effective action. He urged them to maintain the pressure on criminal elements, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to making Enugu State unsafe for criminals.

The Commissioner also appealed to residents to continue supporting police efforts by providing timely and credible information.
