Enugu Police Nab Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Firearm and Stolen Motorcycle

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Somadina Ugwueke, in connection with a case of armed robbery and motorcycle snatching in Nsukka. The arrest, made on May 19, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m., was carried out by operatives of the Nsukka Urban Division with crucial support from local residents.

Recovered during the operation were one locally made revolver pistol, one expended cartridge, two live cartridges, a stolen Q-Link motorcycle, and other incriminating exhibits.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ugwueke and an accomplice—still at large—posed as passengers and boarded a commercial motorcycle along Edim Road. Upon reaching Saint Cyprian Road, Ugwueke allegedly brandished the recovered firearm and, together with his accomplice, forcefully snatched the motorcycle from its rider.

Swift response from the police, aided by vigilant community members, led to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of the stolen items. Manhunt efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has directed the operatives to intensify efforts to track down the remaining suspect and dismantle the criminal network.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
