Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have arrested five suspects in connection with a major case of criminal conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen goods, and money laundering involving a large consignment of agricultural chemicals.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the suspects were apprehended following a swift investigation by detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi.
The case unfolded on May 20, 2025, when Springfield Agro Limited, a Lagos-based agricultural company, reported the unlawful diversion of 1,925 cartons of Roundup 360XL Herbicide, valued at ₦184.8 million, en route to Suleja/Abuja. The consignment was allegedly diverted to Birnin Kebbi by the truck driver, Alhaji Bala, who is currently on the run and suspected of selling the goods to unauthorized dealers at heavily discounted prices.
The police investigation led to the arrest of the following suspects: Nura Abdullahi (45), Nura Muhammed (50), Bashar Abubakar (45), Sanusi Bojo (43), all residents of Birnin Kebbi, and Aliyu Muhammad (48), of Kashin Zama village, Aliero Local Government Area.
During the operation, detectives recovered ₦4,905,000 believed to be proceeds from the illegal sale, along with 1,562 cartons of the diverted herbicide.
Commending the officers for their swift and professional response, Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, lauded the team’s efforts and directed them to intensify the manhunt for the two main suspects still at large: Alhaji Bala and Alhaji Danladi Maitaki, also known as Danbatta.
The CP further instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, to lead a discreet investigation and ensure the case is diligently prosecuted.
