The Federal Government has officially launched the Alternate Education and Renewed Hope National School Feeding Programme, aimed at ensuring that all Nigerian children—especially those in underserved areas—have access to basic education and are provided with nutritious meals from Primary 1 to Primary 3.
Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwat, highlighted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and commitment to inclusive governance. He noted that the programme is designed to enhance educational outcomes and improve the living standards of vulnerable populations.
Professor Yilwat emphasized that the ministry is working to reach children in special circumstances, including those in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, slum settlements, and remote communities, through a variety of targeted programmes.
Princess Aderemi Adebowale, Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Project, stated that the implementation will involve close collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure nationwide success.
Dr. Badamasi Lawal, National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable Nigerians through sustainable social welfare initiatives.
The Renewed Hope National School Feeding Programme is a strategic intervention aimed at reducing hunger, increasing school enrollment and retention, and laying a foundation for improved human capital development across Nigeria.
