With just seven days to the July 12 local government elections in Lagos State, the political atmosphere in Epe is intensifying as residents prepare to head to the polls. At the centre of the contest is Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, the incumbent Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, who is seeking re-election on the strength of what supporters describe as a tenure marked by progress, stability, and impactful leadership.
Animashaun’s campaign, themed “Built on Progress. Driven by Vision,” is rallying voters around her record of governance, which spans infrastructural renewal, healthcare upgrades, grassroots empowerment, and improved local security.
According to campaign materials circulated across wards in the local government area, the incumbent has executed multiple community development initiatives, introduced youth and women-focused programs, and partnered with security agencies to maintain peace and order within the locality. Supporters argue that her administration has set a benchmark for local leadership, particularly in areas of inclusive governance and responsive service delivery.
From Ward A1 through Ward D1, campaign volunteers have been mobilizing residents with door-to-door engagement and neighborhood forums to reinforce support for the chairman’s return to office. Her team says continuity is crucial to sustaining the development blueprint already underway.
“This election is not about experimenting with unknowns. It’s about defending the gains we’ve made,” a campaign spokesperson said on Sunday. “Epe cannot afford to look back.”
With the countdown underway, the campaign has outlined a second-term agenda focused on consolidating ongoing projects and launching new initiatives. These include the Epe Urban Renewal Plan, expanded digital inclusion efforts, further youth and women empowerment programs, and stronger investment in local education and environmental sustainability.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has scheduled the election for Saturday, July 12, 2025. Voting is expected to commence by 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. across all polling units in Epe Local Government.
Residents have been urged to turn out early, vote peacefully, and ensure their voices are heard in determining the leadership of their community for the next four years.
