Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command Special Squad I have arrested a 32-year-old man, Chigozie Michael Clement, for allegedly kidnapping a 7-year-old boy in Lagos.
According to the police, the incident was reported on August 25, 2025, by the victim’s father at the Alapere Police Division, who revealed that his son had been taken by their painter without consent. The suspect later contacted the boy’s mother, demanding a ₦7 million ransom for the child’s release.
The case was quickly escalated to the Special Squad I for a discreet operation. By August 27, 2025, detectives traced the suspect to Ijegun, Lagos, where they arrested him and rescued the child unharmed from a locked room where he had been kept in captivity. The boy has since been reunited with his family.
During interrogation, Clement confessed to the crime, claiming he carried out the abduction to raise money for personal family needs. The police say investigations are ongoing to identify possible accomplices and gather more evidence, after which the suspect will be charged in court.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured Lagosians that the Command remains committed to deploying all available resources to combat criminal activities and keep the state safe.
