The lawmaker representing Epe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, has said his decision to seek a fifth term in office stems from the overwhelming demand and support of his constituents.
Hon. Tobun, who has been in the Assembly since 2011, made this known while addressing community stakeholders in Epe, emphasizing that criticism remains a vital element of governance and should be used to promote growth rather than to cause distraction.
“Criticism is part of governance; it serves as a challenge to do more. No one on earth is above criticism even God’s messengers were criticized,” Tobun said. “We will not be distracted by negative comments but will remain focused and resolute in delivering our developmental agenda for the Epe community.”
The lawmaker urged residents to engage more constructively and objectively in their criticisms, noting that such exchanges would strengthen the relationship between the electorate and their representatives.
According to him, his continued stay in office is a reflection of the people’s confidence in his leadership, adding that his fifth-term ambition was not self-driven but inspired by calls from the grassroots.
“If I had not represented the good people of Epe well, I would not still be here today. My continued stay in office is because of the constituency’s vote of confidence in me,” he stated.
“I am not the best, but my constituents appreciate my humanitarian support and community impact. I cannot impose myself on them, but since they have asked me to continue, I will humbly respect their will.”
Hon. Tobun, however, noted that democracy allows fair competition and that any qualified individual is free to contest in the 2027 election.
“Your PVC is your power. Use it to vote for whoever you believe can best represent you. I am not tired of serving my people and, by God’s grace, I am ready to continue in the service of the Epe community,” he added.
The lawmaker highlighted several of his constituency projects and initiatives, including education support schemes, empowerment programmes, scholarships, palliative distribution, financial assistance to the less privileged, and infrastructural developments that have improved lives across Epe Constituency I.
He assured that more people-oriented projects were underway to consolidate ongoing development efforts.
Reaffirming his commitment to responsive and accountable representation, Tobun said the focus remains on improving the welfare of the people rather than engaging in political distractions.
“The task ahead requires focus, collaboration, and dedication. The work before us is greater than listening to baseless criticisms. Our goal remains to enhance the welfare of our people and to leave lasting legacies that future generations will be proud of,” he noted.
Hon. Tobun expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, youth groups, women associations, and political stakeholders for their consistent support.
“I specially thank my traditional ruler, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashahun, the Oloja of Epe land; my political leader, Alhaji Akanni Seriki Bamu; my supporters, youths, and all other stakeholders. Your support keeps me going, and I promise not to disappoint you. My representation will continue to deliver the dividends of good governance to our people,” he said.
He also advised his supporters to avoid responding to online or offline criticisms, stressing that his administration’s achievements would speak for themselves.
“Our physical projects are visible for all to see. The good people of Epe can testify to our performance and quality representation. As I always say, Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be,” Tobun concluded.
