The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has received a joint delegation from FGN Power, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) offices in Abuja and Lagos, as well as officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, during an inspection visit aimed at accelerating the implementation of the Ibeju-Lekki Electrification Intervention Project.
The inspection team visited the Ajah Transmission Substation and proceeded along the proposed Right of Way (RoW) corridor up to Eleko Junction, marking a crucial step in preparations for the commencement of the electrification project. The project is expected to significantly improve power supply and distribution across Ibeju-Lekki and adjoining communities.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Olowa, who also serves as the Chairman of Conference 57, the umbrella body of all local government chairmen in Lagos State reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring sustainable infrastructural development and enhanced welfare for residents.
He noted that the electrification project represents a major milestone in Ibeju-Lekki’s ongoing transformation, especially as the area continues to attract massive investments following the establishment of major industrial and commercial projects such as the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
According to him, improved electricity access will not only boost economic activities and small businesses in the corridor but also enhance social amenities and the overall living standard of residents.
The Ibeju-Lekki Electrification Intervention Project, when completed, is expected to connect several underserved communities to the national grid, addressing longstanding power supply challenges that have hindered local economic growth.
Officials from FGN Power and TCN assured the Council of the Federal Government’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Lagos State Government and local authorities to ensure smooth implementation, compliance with safety standards, and minimal disruption to host communities.
The inspection visit also featured a technical assessment of the project alignment and discussions on inter-agency coordination, compensation for affected areas, and environmental considerations.
Hon. Olowa commended the stakeholders for their proactive engagement and reiterated that his administration will continue to facilitate development partnerships aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of Ibeju-Lekki.
