The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced a major shake-up in the hierarchy of the Nigeria Police Force, approving the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dankwara Adamu Mohammed as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to represent the North-East geopolitical zone. He replaces DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya, who recently retired from service.
The Commission also promoted several senior officers across various ranks in what it described as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Force and enhance operational efficiency nationwide.
Among the notable elevations, Commissioner of Police (CP) Abibo Deinma Reuben was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), while eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were confirmed as substantive Commissioners of Police (CPs). Those promoted include Naziru Bello Kankarofi, Nendel Joseph Gomwalk, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, Morkwap Dongshal, Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf, Cletus Nwadiogbu, Ahmed Mohammed Bello, Abdulraheem Nurudeen, Patrick Daaor, and Umar Mohammed Hadejia.
The decisions were part of the highpoints of the PSC’s Second Plenary Meeting held at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, Abuja. The session was chaired by the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), mni, and attended by Commissioners Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd) Justice Christine Ladi Dabup, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, who serves as Secretary to the Commission.
In addition, thirteen Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs). The list includes David Gbenga Ojo, Umaru Bello Bichi, Bala Salihu Jarumai, Makanjuola Abiodun, Shafii Abdulkarim, Mohammed Ajose, Mukter Bello (Delta Command), Mada Mani Adamu, Omololu Vaughan, Linus Ogbodo, Emmanuel Anene Ogbuanya, Tijani Richard Gotom, and Shehu Sambo Bawa Ibrahim. Others are Dr. Onwuegbuzie Gerald Awele, a medical doctor, and Hamza Ali, a nurse, both recognized for their specialist contributions.
Forty-four Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). They include Victoria Olayinka Mulero, Commanding Officer, SPU Base 22, Oyo State; Alirat Odunola Adedeji; Olufunmilola Oluwaseun Amore; Ezeokafor Emmanuel Nnonso; Conchita Ngozi Uzoma Braide; and several others.
Furthermore, 412 Superintendents of Police were promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendents (CSPs), a category that cuts across various commands and specialized units nationwide from divisional police officers (DPOs) to officers serving in administrative and technical roles within Force Headquarters and state commands.
Some of those elevated include Emmanuel Peter Okoh, Mohammed Dan-Mallam Abdulrahaman, Ntum Onyekach, Georgina Oluchi Nwaneri (DPO Abakaliki Road, Enugu), Ngozi Ajaegbu (Special Fraud Unit, Lagos Annex), Okoye Tobechukwu Godwin (Unwana Division, Ebonyi), and Oke Oluleke Oluseye, Chief Security Officer to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
The PSC also approved the promotion of several Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to Superintendents, including Rekpene Ukpabi Ekoh (Ebonyi Command), Tonga Monday (48 PMF, Ahoada, Rivers State), and Omiegbu Christian Emenike (Delta Command), among others.
Additionally, the Commission confirmed the appointments of a number of Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) in recognition of their performance and years of service.
In his remarks, the PSC Chairman, DIG Argungu (Rtd), congratulated all newly promoted officers and charged them to demonstrate renewed commitment, integrity, and professionalism in discharging their duties to the nation.
The plenary session, which began earlier in the week, is scheduled to continue today, Friday, October 17, 2025.
