The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), has commenced a comprehensive workshop on human resources and training policy reforms aimed at enhancing the Agency’s operational efficiency and promoting safe and orderly migration in Nigeria.
The workshop, supported by the Ministry of Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is focused on reviewing and harmonizing NAPTIP’s Scheme of Service, Conditions of Service, and organizational structure to align with national public service standards and evolving operational realities.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at Al Vari Hotel, Keffi, Nasarawa State, the Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, OON, described the workshop as a strategic step toward strengthening the Agency’s institutional framework. She noted that as NAPTIP expands in scope and responsibilities, it is imperative to modernize its internal systems for improved accountability, transparency, and staff motivation.
“This workshop marks a significant milestone in our efforts to build a more robust and coherent structure that supports our core mandate of combating human trafficking, protecting victims, and promoting safe migration,” Bello said. “A well-defined Scheme and Conditions of Service are essential for an efficient and motivated workforce, ensuring fairness, clarity, and career progression.”
She commended ICMPD and the Government of the Netherlands for their continued partnership and support, describing their collaboration as vital to NAPTIP’s institutional strengthening and capacity development agenda.
In her remarks, the Head of ICMPD Mission in Nigeria, Ms. Isabelle Wolfsgruber, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting government agencies in the fight against human trafficking and gender-based violence. She urged participants to produce a practical and comprehensive document that would enhance NAPTIP’s operational capacity.
Participants at the workshop expressed appreciation to ICMPD and the Ministry of Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for supporting the initiative, noting that the reforms would boost staff morale and productivity across the Agency.
