The Nasarawa State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that two pupils of St. Peter’s Academy, Rukubi, in Doma Local Government Area, were abducted by suspected kidnappers.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command described the viral report as false, misleading, and not reflective of the actual situation.
According to the statement, the Command received an unverified alert on Thursday morning alleging that two pupils were kidnapped while participating in sports activities. Acting on the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately deployed a joint team of police and military personnel to the school.
Investigations at the scene, however, revealed that the pupils had panicked upon seeing local hunters carrying Dane guns, fled the area, and were mistakenly believed to have been abducted. The PPRO confirmed that the environment was thoroughly searched, the situation brought under control, and the school proprietor affirmed that no abduction took place.
SP Nansel emphasized that security operatives continue to monitor the general area to ensure public safety. He urged residents to disregard the abduction rumour and advised media organisations to verify information before publication to avoid creating unnecessary fear.
